The essential feature on which AZULIK Uh May Residence relies is the ultimate purpose of respecting and honoring those that have been inhabiting the space before our arrival -every living entity: trees, plants, animals. The form follows an intuitive construction that has its own challenges and pursues the integration with the environment, resulting in a biomorphic structure with a completely organic and one of a kind design. To fully understand it one must think about the textile architecture in which the form determines the function.
The structure appeals to the natural intelligence of the ecosystem, one that has been evolving through millions of years and reveals itself in every single detail. This is the reason why the floor prevails with the original contours of its topography, undulating and irregular, reinforcing the telluric energy that emanates from it.
The residence is built based on the precepts of the sacred architecture in which the buildings are imbued by the telluric and astral energies according to the Egyptian tradition and the French dowsing or radiesthesia. No tree was cut down. Inside the house remain 200 trees that inhabit the spaces, guiding the pathways and making themselves present continuing with its natural growth.
Integrating harmoniously the human creation and everyday life to the already existing dynamic of the flora and fauna present in the almost thirty acres of the property has been a priority. This premise reaffirms that the coexistence and reintegration of human beings to the ecosystem is a path to be followed.
AZULIK Uh May Residence is a structure built manually, without machines that disturb the environment. The alternating exterior and interior spaces integrate natural elements of light and air into the home; the living room, bedrooms, performance space, and kitchen are connected through outdoor walkways that pass over reflecting pools, reminding those who walk through, about the importance of the living water.
The creativity of the construction has involved finding a more resistant concrete that is both lighter but capable of supporting an unconventional structure thas has no columns or beams but is woven like a basket.
